How to Start a Story

Posted on

Some people will tell you to writean outline so you know what you are going to write. However, even though it’s nice to know what you are going to write, I honestly don’t do that.

I believe an outline is too restricting. When you make an outline, you are expected to stick with it, but as you write your ideas change and you think of new and better ways to improve their story.

That’s why I write what’s in my head. In other words, I let my imagination go wild. I tried the whole outline thing with a story once and I didn’t end up following it at all. In fact, I’d say only one chapter actually followed my outline and I’m pretty sure that’s because I wrote it before I made the outline.

The only problem with not writing down ideas is that if you let your imagination go wild and you have an idea, you may forget it. That has also happened to me on numerous occasions.

So, these are my tips on how to start a story. First, if you don’t think that your ideas will change then make an outline so you know what you are gonna write. Second, if you think your ideas may change then let your imagination go wild so the ideas can flow freely.

Just make sure you know the cons of these tips because when there are pros there will always be cons.

I hope this helped. Good luck with your story.

Best Way to Write Fight Scenes

If you are having trouble writing action scenes for your story then you should do the following.

Try watching some TV, namely an action film or a show that has many fighting scenes. By watching other people’s fighting scenes, you will be inspired and learn details about how people fight.

Another method is to read stories that have a lot of action, such as an adventure book. By reading those kinds of stories you will get ideas about how action scenes are written.

The final advice I can give you is to listen to the right mood music, maybe some rock music. Rock music is used in action scenes in television shows and movies so it works. You would be surprised how you will just imagine the scenes in your head once you listen to the appropriate music.

You can type down the scenes while listening to the music, or afterward. Either way you will have your fighting scenes written in no time flat.
